Sleeping under the stars at Mill Leat Farm

About us

We are a small, private farm nestled within a hidden valley on the southern fringes of Dartmoor National Park.

Home to our family since September 2015 having found and fallen in love with the farm which was in urgent need of major restoration & renovation.

We are still very much in that journey of restoration but are opening for camping Summer 2019.

Come and meet our small flock of rare breed cheeky Dartmoor Greyface sheep, friendly cob and miniature Shetland pony.

We are also home to an abundance of wild birds including Tawny owls, buzzards and woodpeckers.

Spot badgers, foxes, deer and wild otters.

We are planing to expand our Dartmoor Greyface flock and will be rearing naturally bred Sandy & Black pigs.

What we offer

We are offering something a little different for your outdoor holiday experience.

Secluded and secretive, our camping meadow lies adjacent to a babbling brook and provides a rare opportunity to experience complete  ‘off grid nature camping’ with little luxuries such as Egyptian cotton bedding & fluffy towels in our fully furnished bell tent, and a hot shower in our farmhouse bootroom.

Glamping guests will receive a welcome hamper with local produce on arrival.

Upon booking all guests will receive a   guide to local businesses, attractions and suggestions for days out enabling you to plan ahead and make the most of your stay should you wish.

Well behaved dogs & equines welcome. Within walking distance of two dog-friendly, traditional Dartmoor pubs.

Ideally located

A convenient 3 miles from the Buckfast Abbey junction of the A38 we are ideally situated for the best of South Devon’s attractions and are some 21 miles from the Cornish Border.

Award winning beaches and the rugged beauty of Dartmoor National Park are on your doorstep.

For walkers we are on the Dartmoor Way, and just a few footsteps from the ancient woodlands of Hembury Woods.

For those seeking a bit of action we are close to some of the best river dart canoe hot spots.

Plenty of space to store your bikes, kayaks, surf boards etc.

The nitty gritty

We will be offering a fully furnished bell tent or a fully equipped traditional tent option, basic pitches to pitch your own tent and exclusive hire options - ideal for families, groups of friends, yoga or walking groups, or just those individuals seeking absolute peace and tranquility.

For glampers we provide all the bedding, towels, cooking kit, travel cots/dog bed/s if required so you can just turn up and unpack.

We are not a commercial site, offering limited but lovely facilities, welcoming guests respectful of nature, ecology & the environment.  Enjoy complete radio silence or wander up the hill to take in the views and access 3/4G.

No artificial lighting or electricity is available in the camping meadow, however we can provide USB Power packs and use of fridge/freezer and hot water wash-up facilities.

On a clear night you may find no need for additional lighting - we enjoy incredible clear skies - perfect for star gazing.

The farmhouse is circa 400 years old so there is limited ceiling height in the shower.

Our site is partially sloping so regretfully we are not currently suitable for those with mobility issues.

We aspire to be 'zero to landfill'  - please recycle where possible.

We can arrange transport from the nearest station (Totnes, or Newton Abbot for Enterprise Car Hire) if required. We throroughtly recommend the Great Western train ride along the dramatic coastline if you haven't yet experienced it!

Bring your horse on holiday

We are approximately a 30 minute hack / 5 minute box ride onto Dartmoor.

Our traditional, stone stables offer a welcome, cool retreat for your horse to enjoy after a day exploring the moor, local woodlands, a day following local hounds or a trip to the beach.

We provide a deep, soft recycled paper bed to sleep on, delicious local hay or haylage to munch and a refreshing stream to hoof around in.

Escorted rides available at an additional cost. Trail hunting with local hounds by arrangement.

Nearest beach riding is appx. 21 miles away.

Note, we can only accept horse boxes of 12 tonnes or less due to restricted access.

Please contact us to discuss your needs.
