Sleeping under the stars at Mill Leat Farm

About us

We are a private farm nestled within a hidden valley on the southern fringes of Dartmoor National Park.

Home to our family since September 2016,  having fallen in love with the farm which was in urgent need of major restoration & renovation.

That journey is still underway but we are delighted to offer one of the meadows for private camping this summer.

Our extended family include a small flock of rare-breed Dartmoor Greyface sheep, a friendly cob, a miniature Shetland pony and coming soon Sandy & Black pigs.

A haven for wildlife hosting an abundance of wild birds, tawny owls, buzzards, woodpeckers, badgers, foxes, deer, and otters.

What we offer

We are offering something a little different for your outdoor holiday experience.

Secluded and secretive, our camping meadow (exclusively yours for the duration of your stay) lies adjacent to a babbling stream, providing a rare opportunity to experience complete 'wild camping' with little luxuries such as Egyptian cotton bedding & fluffy towels in our beautiful fully furnished bell tent.

Enjoy a hot shower in our farmhouse boot-room, a welcome pack of local treats on arrival, provision of cooking equipment & utensils, a USB/12V power pack, cool box and use of fridge-freezer.

Enjoy complete radio silence or wander up the hill to take in the views and access 3/4G.

Incredible clear skies and wonderful views of the moor - perfect for star gazers.

Well behaved dogs & equines welcome.

Within walking distance of the pub.

Ideally located

A convenient 3 miles from the Buckfast Abbey junction of the A38 Devon Expressway we are ideally situated for the best of South Devon’s attractions and are some 21 miles from the Cornish Border.

Award winning beaches and the rugged beauty of Dartmoor National Park are on your doorstep.

For walkers we are on the Dartmoor Way, and just a few footsteps from the ancient woodlands of Hembury Woods.

For those seeking a bit of action we are close to some of the best river dart canoe hot spots.

Plenty of space to store your bikes, kayaks, surf boards etc.

The nitty gritty

We will be offering a fully-furnished bell tent (sleeps up to 6), within a self contained meadow - which will be exclusively yours for the duration of your stay.

Bedding, towels, basic amenities, cast iron fire pit, stove and cooking equipment provided - enabling you to simply arrive, unpack and enjoy your holiday. The 6m bell tent has a double-bed and can be configured to your needs - such as a cot, toddler bed, single bed/s, with duvets or sleeping bags. We also provide a welcome pack of local treats, a trug of logs, and a bed & bowls for the dog if required.

We offer the option for a further 4 pitches if required - ideal for families, groups of friends, yoga or walking groups, or just those individuals seeking absolute peace and tranquility.

Please note the farmhouse is circa 400 years old so there is limited ceiling height in the boot-room shower.

Site is partially sloping so regretfully we are not currently suitable for those with mobility issues.

Dogs must be kept on leads around the farm.

WC, shower & wash-up in farmhouse boot room (additional private compost WC in camping meadow).

Use of children's play barn & trampoline strictly at own risk.
